American Express will make London Heathrow the site of its first Centurion Lounge in Europe.

The lounge, which will be the 13th in the Centurion system, is slated to open sometime next year. It will be the 13th Centurion Lounge and the second outside the U.S., joining Hong Kong.

Located in Heathrow's Terminal 3, the lounge will span 7,000 square feet.

Available to Platinum and Centurion cardholders, Centurion lounges typically offer free food, wine and cocktails as well as noise-buffering work stations, among other amenities. The London lounge will have amenities influenced by the city's food, drinks and design culture, American Express said.

The company also said that Charlotte's airport will be the site of the 14th Centurion Lounge. The opening is expected in 2020. The lounge will measure 13,000 square feet and offer floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the airfield and the city's downtown. The lounge will be located at the intersection of concourse's D and E, near the airport's central atrium.

Centurion Lounges currently operate at New York LaGuardia, Las Vegas, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Francisco, Miami, Seattle-Tacoma, Houston Bush, Hong Kong and Philadelphia airports.

Next year, American Express plans to open lounges in New York JFK, Denver and Los Angeles prior to the London opening.
