Delta Air Lines plans to restart service between Atlanta and Johannesburg and Cape Town effective Jan. 8.
Jimmy Eichelgruen, the airline's director of sales for Africa, the Middle East and India, said the service is timed to allow for convenient same-day and same airline connections at Atlanta from most major cities throughout North America.
"Initially, Delta plans to operate three times a week," he said. "The flight will be operated by Delta's flagship Airbus A350-900 aircraft, one of the newest and most fuel-efficient aircraft types in our fleet. It also features the award-winning Delta One Suite as part of a four-cabin offering to South Africa."
Although the reintroduction of the flight was initially planned for October, Eichelgruen said that due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, travel restrictions and customer demand, Delta had adjust flight schedules.
