Flights resumed Monday morning at Dubai Airport after a drone strike on a nearby fuel tank caused operations to be suspended.

The strike was reported by the Dubai Media Office around 4 a.m. local time on Monday. No injuries were reported, but the blaze sent plumes of smoke into the Dubai night sky not far from the airport.

Flights began resuming around 10 a.m. local time, Dubai Airport announced. Long-haul hub carrier Emirates announced on X at around 4 p.m. local time that it had resumed Dubai operations, though some flights on Monday's schedule were canceled.

By 8 p.m., the fire had been fully extinguished, Dubai Media said.

Flight operations in Dubai, usually the busiest airport in the world for international flying, have been constrained and periodically suspended since the beginning of the Iran war on Feb. 28, with many airlines suspending all service.

On Monday, British Airways announced that it would extend its suspension of Dubai operations until at least June.

"Due to the continuing uncertainty of the situation in the Middle East and airspace instability, and to provide more clarity to our customers, we've extended the temporary reduction in our flying schedule in the region," the airline said.

British Airways also suspended flights to Israel, Bahrain and Jordan until at least June, while its Qatar flights are suspended until April 30.
