Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has opened the first phase of its $590 million renovation of Terminal 3.

Improvements in this first of three project phases include 31 new common-use ticket counters; a larger, consolidated security checkpoint; and the new Museum Gallery, dedicated to Arizona history and culture.

The terminal, said Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, also features improved lighting and expansive views of the Phoenix landscape and skyline.

In the second phase of the Terminal 3 project, the south concourse will be razed and a larger concourse constructed, enabling the closure of Terminal 2 to airline operations. In the third phase, the north concourse will be renovated. The second and third phases are scheduled for a 2020 completion.
