Icelandair continued a week of U.S. route announcements Thursday, revealing that on June 1 it will begin flying four times per week between Reykjavik and San Francisco.

The San Francisco news comes one day after the carrier said it will start flying seasonally to Baltimore on May 28 and two days after unveiling plans to begin Kansas City service on May 25. With the three new routes, the legacy Icelandic carrier is now slated to serve 18 U.S. airports this year.

The flights to San Francisco and Baltimore are the latest escalation in Icelandair's transatlantic battle with discount Icelandic carrier Wow Air, which already serves San Francisco and Baltimore. Icelandair decided to battle Wow in Baltimore this summer even though it already flies daily to nearby Washington Dulles.

Icelandair had previously announced that it will launch Dallas/Fort Worth and Cleveland service this year, competing against Wow on both routes.
