JetBlue will do away with year-round service to London Gatwick Airport. Instead, the carrier will transition to a summer seasonal schedule for flights from Boston and New York.

Service between Boston and Gatwick will pause on Oct. 1, while New York-Gatwick flights will pause on Oct. 26. Both routes will resume for seasonal service on June 12.

JetBlue will continue to fly year-round from Boston and New York to London Heathrow.

"JetBlue is constantly evaluating our routes to best serve our customers, return our airline to profitability, and find ways to improve our reliability," the airline said in a statement.

As part of its effort to return to profitability, JetBlue has been leaning heavily on transcontinental flying and its core markets in New York, New England, Florida and the Caribbean. The carrier has already announced exits from more than 50 routes this year as well as 15 destinations.

During the airline's Q2 earnings call last month, CEO Joanna Geraghty said that the airline is pleased with seasonal Europe flying. But she noted that airline's decision to defer delivery of 13 Airbus A321XLR (extra-long range) aircraft until 2030 and beyond would slow its transatlantic growth. She said JetBlue is still learning how to make its transatlantic network profitable.

JetBlue flies 11 transatlantic routes from Boston and New York.
