A technical problem on Friday at U.K.’s Swanwick air traffic control center has greatly restricted U.K. airspace capacity while the problem was being addressed, causing delays at airports throughout the country.

“There is a technical problem at the NATS control center in Swanwick, which is affecting U.K. airspace. Flights are currently experiencing delays and we will update passengers as soon as we have more information,” London’s Heathrow Airport wrote in a statement on its website.

Gatwick Airport stated that some flights are now departing (all departing flights had been grounded earlier) but that flights are currently experiencing delays.

NATS, operator of the Swanwick center, said that the system had been restored and apologized for the delays the failure may have caused.
