Lufthansa has become the first airline to offer seats
through Airbnb.
“Our cabin isn't in the woods, but in the sky! Personal food
and beverage service at 910km/h,” reads the listing for a round-trip premium
economy seat from Frankfurt to New York. The seat costs $792 plus a $95 booking
fee.
Lufthansa spokeswoman Christina Semmel said the airline
began the promotion last Friday and within two days the carrier’s social media
channels had received 600,000 impressions related to the offer.
Lufthansa lists the accommodation type as a plane with a
shared room. The bed type is a couch and there are four bathrooms. Amenities
include TV, heating, air conditioning and WiFi.
The listing ends this Friday, but Lufthansa is discussing
other potential campaigns with Airbnb, Semmel said.
Dutch carrier KLM has listed an entire aircraft on Airbnb,
“but this is the first time an airline offers seats through our website,” said Airbnb
spokeswoman Lara Matuschek.
