Qantas revamps Sydney terminal

SYDNEY, Australia -- Qantas completed a $250 million redevelopment of its domestic terminal at Sydney Airport.

The redevelopment is part of an ongoing upgrade and expansion project of Qantas terminal facilities that is needed to accommodate continued passenger growth, which it projects at 5% annually over the next five years.

Six times larger than its original size at more than 900,000 square feet, the two-level terminal is equipped with an additional seven aircraft parking positions, providing a total of 14 new gates.

The new terminal has a total of 32 walk-through check-in counters that expedite passenger flow and also has the first automated baggage sorting system ever installed in an Australian domestic terminal.

There is also a new Qantas Club Lounge with seating for 750, plus a comprehensive business center. Another feature of the terminal is a new concourse with 18 shops, including specialty food outlets, luxury goods and clothing.
