Report: JAL now leaning toward Oneworld

According to another seesaw round of media reports out of Japan, Japan Airlines is now leaning toward staying with American Airlines and the Oneworld alliance.

Last month, some Japanese media outlets said Delta had already wooed JAL away from American and that the Asian carrier would soon be joining SkyTeam.

JAL's new CEO, Kazuo Inamori, and officials of the the Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp. (a government-backed agency in charge of the JAL turnaround) have decided that switching alliances is too risky and could hinder their ability to turn around the airline quickly, the Asahi newspaper said on its website, Reuters reported.

JAL will make an official announcement this week, the Asahi said. A JAL spokeswoman declined to comment.
