Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has warned passengers to expect departure delays next month while one of its three runways is closed for construction and maintenance.

Phoenix’s north runway will be out of commission from Oct. 6 through Nov. 6. While work is ongoing, departure delays of up to 30 minutes are possible during peak travel times of 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Passengers who have tight connections should contact their airline if they are concerned about having enough time to transfer between flights,” the airport said. “Additionally, passengers and those picking up passengers should check flight status with their airline before coming to the airport.”

The primary reason for the closure is to run additional power from a substation north of Sky Harbor to its Terminal 3, which is undergoing a renovation.

While the runway is closed, Sky Harbor will also undertake such items as concrete replacement on the most common landing area, lighting upgrades and striping, the airport said.
