Southwest to fly to Boston

Southwest Airlines said it plans to begin service from Boston in the fall.

The carrier has not released details, saying only that it will begin with two gates and a “conservative number of flights that will complement its 64 airport network.”

Southwest has been serving New England since 1996 with service from Providence, R.I. It added service from Manchester, N.H., in 1998. The airline said Boston flights would complement existing service from those two cities.
