Rapidly expanding low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines announced two new routes out of Philadelphia this week.
Beginning April 29, Spirit will offer service between Philadelphia and its hubs in Fort Lauderdale and Detroit. The airline began taking bookings on the routes on Wednesday.
With those additions, Spirit will service Philadelphia from eight destinations, including Los Angeles, from which service will launch on April 14.
The Philadelphia flights are among a spate of routes Spirit has announced in the last six weeks. In early November, Spirit said that it will begin its first service out of Seattle-Tacoma Airport next spring with twice-daily flights to and from Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Also in November, Spirit announced that it will begin flying between Los Angeles and New Orleans on April 14.
And last week, Spirit announced that it will begin daily routes on April 14 between Atlanta and Minneapolis-St. Paul and between Atlanta and New Orleans. Those routes will bring the number of destinations Spirit services from Atlanta to 17.
