The World Cup, which begins on Thursday in Russia, has sparked a jump in flight bookings to the country, Travelport has found.

According to Travelport, flight bookings are up 34% year over year with 136,503 more passengers.

Bookings from Germany had the greatest volume growth, with 16,213 more bookings, a 44% increase.

The United States was not far behind, with bookings growth of 13,654, a 66% increase, followed by China, with 8,855 additional bookings, a 40% increase.

Following the top three, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Great Britain, Mexico, Hong Kong and Egypt saw the largest  increases. Brazil saw the largest percentage growth, with 6,199 more passengers, up 939% year-over-year.

Italy saw the largest fall in flight bookings to Russia, which Travelport attributed to its failure to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years: bookings dropped to 5,204, or 18%.
