US Airways to operate Philly-Israel route

US Airways will launch daily service between Philadelphia and Tel Aviv on July 2, 2009. The route will become the first-ever nonstop flight between Philadelphia and Israel.

Teams from the Israel Ministry of Tourism and US Airways drafted a cooperation strategy for 2008-2009 at US Airways headquarters in Tempe, Ariz., on Aug. 21.

"We expect US Airways' presence in the U.S.-Tel Aviv market to enhance economic growth and tourism opportunities for both the U.S. and Israel," said Rami Levi, director of the U.S. Western region for the Israel Ministry of Tourism. "We have been working to recruit US Airways since 2007, and we are thrilled by this historic decision."
