United converts to United Express in six markets

CHICAGO -- Citing the softening economy, United said it will convert to United Express regional jet service in six markets this summer.

United said it is making the change, effective July 9, because the mainline service with bigger aircraft has been losing money.

The cities are Jacksonville, Fla.; Lincoln, Neb.; Memphis; Milwaukee; Nashville, and Saginaw, Mich.

Also, United will discontinue its Palm Springs, Calif., service, which has consisted of a single daily flight to Los Angeles and seasonal winter service to Denver.

United Express offers 17 daily Los Angeles-Palm Springs flights.
