Virgin America on Tuesday launched service to its 20th destination, Newark.

The carrier is operating thrice-daily service from both Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Virgin America competes with United Airlines on both routes.

“Before we entered the market, these routes previously had some of the highest fares in the nation. Since we entered the market, fares have dropped by nearly 40%,” said Virgin America CEO David Cush.

Newark is Virgin America’s second destination in the New York area. The carrier already flies to Kennedy Airport from Los Angeles and San Francisco.
