The Icelandic low-cost carrier Wow Air will begin flying from
Reykjavik to Los Angeles and San Francisco in the summer of 2016.
The routes will be serviced by Airbus
A330-300 aircraft configured for 342 passengers. Flights to Los Angeles will
be offered four times per week, while San Francisco routes will be flown five
times per week. Wow has not specified the dates when the services will begin.
Tickets will go on sale in January.
With the announcement, the two West Coast cities will become the
third and four U.S. markets for Wow, which began flying in 2011. Wow started its U.S. service earlier this year with flights from Reykjavik
to Boston and and Baltimore. From Iceland, the airline offers
connections to 14 European destinations.
Wow claims credit for bringing down
prices in the Boston-London market by 14% since inaugurating its Boston service in
May. On Tuesday, Wow Air was advertising a one-way Boston-London
fare for $149 including taxes. Wow flies to Gatwick Airport, which is about 30 miles south of London.
The A330-300s serving Los Angeles and San Francisco will feature
one-class cabins. For an upcharge, passengers will be able to purchase seats
spaced 34 inches from the row in front, up from the plane's standard
spacing of 30 inches.
