Paris-based discount carrier XL Airways has ceased selling tickets.

In a brief website statement, the carrier blamed the closure on financial difficulties.

XL flew to four U.S. destinations from its hub at Paris de Gaulle Airport: Newark, Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The carrier planned to continue with at least some scheduled operations this weekend but said that some flights might have to be cancelled. Customers should verify their flight schedule at XL.com.

XL Airways is part of the La Compagnie Group. The La Compagnie brand offers all-business-class flights from Newark to Paris Orly and Nice.
