California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill authorizing state spending on a high-speed rail system and local rail networks connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco.
As part of SB 1029, which passed earlier this month, construction on a high-speed rail line connecting Southern California’s San Fernando Valley to the state’s Central Valley will start next year.
The plan is for local train networks in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas to be connected to high-speed rail by 2019.
In all, California estimates that about $4.7 billion state dollars as well as $7.9 billion in federal and local funds will be invested in the network.
