WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- New Linx high-speed trains -- a joint venture of the Norwegian and Swedish national railways -- now connect Oslo, Norway, with Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden, at speeds of up to 125 mph.

Travel time between Oslo and Stockholm has been slashed to four hours, 30 minutes, down from the previous six hours. And, further track improvements eventually should reduce the trip to three hours.

Linx service runs three times daily on weekdays and twice a day on weekends between the capital cities, as well as between Oslo and Gothenburg, a four-hour trip.

Adult fares from Rail Europe and DER start at $58 in second class between Oslo and Gothenburg, and $141 for second class between Oslo and Stockholm; youth and passholder fares are available, and kids under age 16 travel free with an adult.
