The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority has approved a plan that will levy a tax of $2.50 per day on car rental customers, capped at five days. Orlando airports could begin assessing the charge as soon as this summer, according to published reports.

The authority plans to use the tax money to pay for an expansion of car rental facilities, including more parking spaces, at Orlando International Airport. According to the authority, the $2.50 charge would be dropped once the expansion is paid for, within five to seven years.
