The State Department on Thursday issued a Level 4 advisory
for international travel, urging U.S. citizens to avoid it altogether because of the Covid-19
pandemic.
U.S. citizens who live in the U.S. “should arrange for
immediate return, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite
period,” the State Department said.
The U.S. government's guidance comes while a travel ban is in place that does not allow most Europeans to fly to the U.S. Citizens from the U.S. are permitted to fly home, but the airlines have dramatically reduced international flying.
“If you choose to travel internationally, your travel plans
may be severely disrupted, and you may be forced to remain outside of the
United States for an indefinite time frame,” the State Department added.
U.S. citizens who plan to travel internationally despite the
government’s advisory should “have a travel plan that does not rely on the U.S.
government for assistance.”
