Best Friends Animal Society, a national no-kill animal rescue group, is opening a pet-centric hotel near its headquarters in Utah.

The 40-room Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile will open Aug. 15 in Kanab, which is at the center of the state's "Golden Circle" and serves as a convenient base camp for day trips to Zion, Bryce, and Grand Canyon national parks and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Besides welcoming pets to rooms that have been specially designed for four-legged guests, the hotel will offer pet sleepovers from its nearby sanctuary as well as free shuttles to its operations where guests can also volunteer.

All proceeds from the hotel will support Best Friends' efforts to end the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters by 2025.

The Roadhouse features 30 regular rooms, eight suites and two two-level suites, each with a two-door entry system to ensures pets don't slip out, furnishings built 18 inches or higher to prevent pets from getting trapped and sleeping nooks with pet mattresses. There are also communal complimentary pet washing stations, a fenced-in park with a splash pad, and pet walking services and sitting.

The mercantile has a common area for guests, a complimentary vegan continental breakfast bar as well as retail space with Best Friends and Roadhouse branded merchandise as well as vegan grab-and-go items, beer and wine.
