The Grand Hotel Europa in Innsbruck, Austria, has temporarily closed and is implementing quarantine procedures after a hotel worker tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.

A spokesperson with the Austrian Tourist Office confirmed that Innsbruck currently has two confirmed cases of the virus, with one of the affected individuals being an employee of the property. Both cases are currently being treated in isolation in Innsbruck.

“We can confirm the hotel is temporarily closed due to abundant cautionary measures and testing,” said the spokesperson. “At this stage, we do not know if the closure will be short-term or last longer.”

According to the latest updates received by the Austrian Tourist Office, guests and employees who had little contact with the affected person are being tested on the premises at the Grand Hotel Europa. Those with tests that come back negative are permitted to leave the hotel.

Guests and employees who have had closer contact with the affected employee are being kept in quarantine at the hotel for additional testing.

The hotel closure in Innsbruck comes as the H10 Costa Adeje Palace in Tenerife is on lockdown after two of the property’s guests positive for the virus.
