Carnival Cruise Lines and the Port of New Orleans have finalized a deal that will keep at least two Carnival ships sailing from New Orleans through 2019.

The five-year agreement, effective July 1, supercedes a three-year agreement reached in 2013.

Currently, the Carnival Dream sails seven-day cruises and the Carnival Elation does four- and fire-day itineraries from New Orleans. Together they are expected to carry 400,000 passengers this year.

The agreement specifies that two ships will sail from New Orleans of equal to or greater size than the Dream-class and Fantasy-class ships. It has three one-year options for extension after 2019.

“This is a clear demonstration of Carnival’s belief in New Orleans as one of its top home ports,” said the port's president and CEO, Gary LaGrange.
