Choice Hotels' Q4 profit rises on U.S. demand increases

Choice Hotels International's fourth-quarter earnings rose 7.9% from a year earlier, as room demand for its moderate-sector brands jumped.

Revenue per available room (RevPAR) at Choice Hotels' flagship Comfort Inn and Comfort Suites badges rose 11% and 12%, respectively. Choice Hotels' Sleep and Clarion brands each had 14% year-over-year RevPAR increases, while RevPAR at the company's Ascend Hotel Collection jumped 17%.

Overall, net income increased to $25.3 million, from $23.4 million a year earlier, while revenue rose 10%, to $185.4 million.
