Club Med will open its first ski resort in North America in
2020, in Quebec's ski region.
The $93 million project will be situated in Le Massif de
Charlevoix ski area, which boasts the highest point in Eastern Canada and
slopes overlooking the Saint Lawrence River.
The 300-room, all-inclusive resort, 90 minutes from Quebec's
airport, will be "four trident" in Club Med's property classification
system, with five being the top tier. It will be one of several Club Med
resorts that offers "five trident spaces," with higher-end amenities
and suites. The resort will also offer convention and meeting space.
The project is part of Club Med's plans to open one to two mountain/ski
resorts every year for the next three years. It aims to build 15 resorts by
2020. Club Med currently has 24 all-inclusive mountain resorts in France,
Italy, Switzerland, Japan and China,
"We're excited to add Canada to our list," said
Xavier Mufraggi, CEO of Club Med North America.
Club Med has been hinting for several years that it would
open its first North American ski resort either in the Rocky Mountains or
Quebec.
