Dallas hotel marks 85th year with revamp

The Warwick Melrose Dallas Hotel is celebrating its 85th birthday this year and recently unveiled a yearlong renovation to guestrooms and suites.

"Every room received a complete makeover," said Larry McAfee, general manager. "Yet, when you enter a room, your first impression is not 'new' -- it's 'luxury,' 'glamour' and 'comfort.' We wanted tasteful opulence that would be inviting to a modern traveler. Hollywood of the 1920s seemed the era that best represented that blend, and it ties to the timeframe in which the hotel opened," said McAfee.

The Warwick Melrose Dallas is part of the Warwick Hotels International group, which includes five North American hotels and 39 throughout Europe, Asia and the South Pacific.

"Our owner, Richard Chiu, has a vision to make the Warwick Melrose Hotel an international destination," said McAfee. "In these economic times, most hotels are scaling back plans or deferring renovations, but Mr. Chiu is committed to strategic investments that further the Warwick brand, and he is particularly interested in establishing the brand in Dallas."

One of the design firms employed for the project was Black Box Interiors of London, who has done work for several other Warwick International hotels, including the Warwick Brussels and the Warwick Denver.

"The Warwick Melrose Hotel was originally a combination hotel/apartment building when it opened, and so our rooms are all unique sizes and shapes, and all of our rooms are spacious and even oversized," said McAfee. "Similarly, although there are common elements among the newly redone rooms, no two are exactly alike."

With more than 6,000 square feet of meetings space, the Warwick Melrose Dallas accommodates groups of up to 300. Its popular Library Bar was also completely renovated in 2008 and offers an elegant setting for cocktails, upscale bar food and live jazz. Learn more about the hotel at www.warwickmelrosedallas.com.
