The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, which opened in 1977 as a Westin and remains the city's tallest building, will get a $30 million renovation.

The 1,329-room hotel, which was the world's tallest hotel when it opened, will begin its upgrades in February. The property, which has 100,000 square feet of meetings space, will remain open during the one-year renovation project.
