Gilbert Trigano, 80, former Club Med president

PARIS -- Gilbert Trigano, president of Club Mediterranee from 1963 to 1993, died following a long illness.

He was 80.

Trigano, who wrote anti-Nazi literature while working with the French Resistance during World War II, joined Paris-based Club Med in 1954 and helped develop the company's concept of sunny, inexpensive vacation clubs.

His son Serge took over Club Med in 1993, but, following some tough years, he left the company, as well.

Trigano is survived by his son; his wife, Simone, and three daughters.
