Hilton next year will roll out its "Connected Room"
initiative, enabling guests to control room preferences from their smartphone.
Connected Room will be available for Hilton Honors members, "scaling
rapidly" across the company's U.S. hotels in 2018, Hilton said.
Through the Connected Room feature, guests using Hilton's
mobile app will be able to control room temperature, lighting, TV channels and
window-covering settings, and customize streaming content to the guestroom TV.
Guests will be able to help hotels reduce energy usage by
synching room-temperature controls with their schedules so that air conditioning
or heating are only deployed when the guest is in the room.
The app already lets guests do mobile check-in, choose their
rooms and open guestroom locks with their smartphone.
Hilton said it will expand Connected Room to allow for
voice-activated controls for some room settings. It also plans to enable guests
to personalize guestroom artwork by letting them download graphics or pictures
into in-room displays.
