IHG hires president for the Americas

IHG-JimAbrahamsonInterContinental Hotels Group has hired Jim Abrahamson from Global Hyatt to be its next president for the Americas.

Abrahamson takes over the position left vacant when Stevan Porter stepped down in July for medical reasons. Porter died in August. The company's finance director, Richard Solomon, had been interim president before Abrahamson was hired.

As head of development at Hyatt, Abrahamson led the transformation of AmeriSuites into Hyatt's select-service lifestyle brand, Hyatt Place.

Before joining Hyatt in 2004, Abrahamson was president of Baymont Inns and Suites, which was sold to La Quinta that same year.

Prior to joining Baymont, Abrahamson was senior vice president of Hilton Hotels Corp. and was responsible for developing and franchising Hilton's successful Hilton Garden Inn select-service chain.
