Kimpton to operate Roatan resort

Kimpton Hotels & Resorts will flag a resort on Roatan Island's West Bay Beach in early 2021.

Construction is underway to convert the 62-room Grand Roatan Resort into the 126-room Kimpton Roatan, via an expansion and renovation of the existing property, which is currently open while being renovated.

As a Kimpton it will have 43 one- and two-bedroom suites and one presidential suite as well as a rooftop "sky bar" with a glass-fronted pool, another outdoor pool, a restaurant, lounge and beach bars, as well as a fitness center, spa, water sports facilities and nearly 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meetings and events space.

The Honduras property will be Kimpton's third resort in the region, joining the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa in Grand Cayman, which opened in November 2016, and the Kimpton Kawana Bay Resort in Grenada, slated to open in late 2020.

Kimpton CEO Mike DeFrino said the addition of the property is part of the brand's strategy to "prioritize our expansion in the Caribbean market."
