Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will be taking over management of Zurich's historical Savoy Baur en Ville hotel, with the property set to be revamped and reflagged as the Mandarin Oriental Savoy Zurich by 2024.
It will be the luxury brand's second Swiss outpost, joining the Mandarin Oriental Geneva.
Originally opened in 1838, the Savoy Baur en Ville hotel is centrally
located within Zurich's main square, on Paradeplatz, and is currently
managed by Credit Suisse.
The hotel will close in 2022 in order to begin a two-year renovation project. Once completed, the property will include 80 guestrooms and suites, three dining venues, meeting and event space and an updated fitness center.
Mandarin Oriental will officially begin managing the hotel upon its 2024 reopening and reflagging.
According to James Riley, group chief executive for Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, the brand's entry into Zurich represents a "strategic" move, "which consolidates and complements our regional presence in central Europe, including upcoming projects in Vienna and Lucerne."
