Marriott International has appointed Jim Scholefield as chief information and digital officer (CIDO), effective Feb. 24.
He succeeds Bruce Hoffmeister, who announced late last year that he would be retiring from Marriott after 30 years with the company. Hoffmeister will be staying through the middle of this year to assist with the transition.
In his new role, Scholefield will oversee all aspects of the company's information technology and digital strategies, reporting directly to Stephanie Linnartz, Marriott's group president for consumer operations, technology and emerging businesses.
Scholefield comes to Marriott from pharmaceutical group Merck & Co., where he most recently served as CIDO. Prior to joining Merck, he held posts with Nike, serving as chief information officer, and The Coca-Cola Company, spending five years with the beverage giant as chief technology officer.
Scholefield has also previously held leadership roles with The Northern Trust Company and Ford Motor Company.
