You know what they say about Nantucket: that the tiny island off the coast of Massachusetts is known as the billionaires club, surpassing neighboring Martha's Vineyard, which draws mere millionaires.
But its rarified atmosphere aside, fans of the island are drawn as much by its quiet, unspoiled ambience, complete with acres of protected beaches and wilderness, as they are by its high-end amenities.
Beginning in late summer, visitors to Nantucket will be able to combine the twin lures of serenity and luxury at the new Inn at the White Elephant Village on South Beach Street.
The property will feature 20 units, including 14 suites and six deluxe guestrooms, which, combined with the already existing White Elephant Residences, will comprise the new White Elephant Village.
The property is an offshoot of the well-established 54-room White Elephant hotel, a posh property that was named the No. 1 resort in Massachusetts in Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards each of the past two years.
The Inn will feature a separate lobby, serving morning coffee, pastries, all-day snacks and late-afternoon port and cheese as well as a dedicated reception area, concierge, fireplace, gift shop and business center. All guests of the White Elephant Village will have exclusive access to the Village's heated pool and cabanas, fitness center and bicycles.
As to design, expect to see an understated decor, with a neutral palette, oversize windows and typical Nantucket-style wainscoting. Amenities will include HD flat-screen TVs and linens by Pratesi. To accommodate families, the 14 suites come equipped with sofa beds, and four suites will have fireplaces.
The White Elephant hotel and White Elephant Hotel Residences opened for the season on April 19; bookings are being accepted now for stays beginning Aug. 1 at the Inn at the White Elephant Village. Nightly rates start at $628.33.
