New management firm to oversee two hotels

CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. -- Two hotel companies have joined forces to create Valley Resort Management, a firm set up to operate, market and further develop two luxury hotels on the Monterey Peninsula -- Quail Lodge Resort & Golf Club and Bernardus Lodge.

The two companies that formed Valley Resort Management are Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, which owns Quail Lodge and counts The Peninsula Group among its divisions, and Baylaurel, the owner of Bernardus Lodge.

Baylaurel also owns Bernardus Winery and Vineyard, a Carmel Valley, Calif.-based company.

James Cecil, general manager of Bernardus Lodge and chief operating officer of Baylaurel, is the managing director of Valley Resort Management, now responsible for marketing and operations of the 57-room Bernardus Lodge and the 97-room Quail Lodge.

Individual ownership of the hotels remains unchanged.

"The establishment of Valley Resort Management provides fresh impetus for both resorts to capitalize on their respective strengths and to maximize their potential," Cecil said in a statement.
