President Obama has named Boston hotelier Richard Friedman to the President’s Export Council, which is tasked with helping Obama reach his goal of doubling US exports and tourism in five years.

Friedman owns the Charles and Liberty Hotels in Boston.

"I’m honored to be selected by the President to serve and have made it my personal goal to try to help our country's tourism, hospitality and air transit industries," Friedman said in a statement.

The council consists of 13 business leaders, including Boeing CEO Jim McNerney, Xerox Corp. CEO Ursula Burns, Vermeer Corp. CEO Mary Andringa and Dow Corning Corp. CEO Stephanie Burns.
