Proper Hotels, a new lifestyle brand headed by former Viceroy Hotels chief Brad Korzen, has selected a Los Angeles location and says the downtown property will open in early 2017.

The Los Angeles Proper will occupy an 81-year-old building at 11th and Broadway, about a block-and-a-half south of the Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles. The building was a businessman’s club from 1924 until 1947, when it was converted to the Case Hotel. It operated as a YMCA from 1965 until 2013.

The 13-story hotel will have 148 guestrooms, a restaurant, and a rooftop lounge and pool. Korzen’s Kor Group along with Frank Stork and Channing Henry will redevelop the property.

Proper Hotels was announced in January. The company said at the time that the San Francisco Proper would reopen at the site of the old Renoir Hotel on the city’s Market Street by year’s end. In addition to downtown Los Angeles, other hotels are slated for Hollywood, Calif., as well as Austin, Texas.
