The Copamarina Beach Resort & Spa on Puerto Rico’s southwestern coast has joined Best Western's new BW Premier Collection of independent hotels.

The Copamarina is the first hotel in North America to join BW Premier. The collection also includes five hotels in England, Italy and Sweden. Best Western introduced the collection last year.

Hotels within the BW Premier Collection are not part of the Best Western chain but are listed and available for booking on Best Western's website. Guests earn rewards in Best Western’s loyalty program when they stay at BW Premier hotels.

Independent hoteliers benefit from Best Westernl’s global distribution, according to Best Western CEO David Kong.

The Copamarina, 90 miles from San Juan, is surrounded by the Dry Forest to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. The 106-room resort recently completed a $1.6 million redo of public spaces and guest rooms.

Amenities include two pools, two restaurants, a spa, tennis courts, water sports and access to nearby Gilligan’s Island.
