Sandals Resorts International launched an environmental-management program with EarthCheck to reduce the company;s environmental footprint and increase the benefits to communities through sustainable tourism.
EarthCheck is an environmental management, benchmarking and certification company that developed the Green Globe Benchmaking standard.
"The partnership provides us with access to tools and data that are the best that is out there," said Sandals CEO Adam Stewart. "We will be able to meet the needs of a new carbon economy and gain better insight into how to efficiently operate each of our resorts."
All Sandals, Beaches and Grand Pineapple resorts will undergo third-party auditing in areas of natural resources, waste management, sustainable building techniques and community projects.
Each resort will have an environmental manager to oversee programs to reduce energy and water consumption, improve waste disposal, prevent air pollution, protect marine life and foster bonds with local communities.
