Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts last week opened its first hotel in Tibet, the Shangri-La Hotel Lhasa.

The 289-room property is near Buddhist sites such as Potala Palace and Norbulingka Palace. The hotel has Tibetan and Chinese restaurants as well as an 82-foot-long swimming pool.

With Lhasa located almost 12,000 feet above sea level, the hotel also features a glass-walled oxygen lounge where the oxygen approximates sea level.
