ME Hotels, Sol Melia's brand of properties with contemporary decor and architecture, will transform ME Cancun to an all-inclusive resort on Jan. 1.

According to the company, ME Cancun will become the first of Sol Melia's Complete ME concept, which will break with traditional all-inclusive resorts by allowing people not registered at the hotel access to the property and its amenities.

ME properties in Cabo, Madrid and Barcelona will not adopt the Complete ME approach and will remain operating on a European Plan basis.

In a statement, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, the co-vice president and CEO of Sol Melia Hotels and Resorts, said: "This dynamic model will allow the property to cater to a wide array of guests while meeting new consumer demands, which have become increasingly driven by the desire for more qualitative value with freedom."

The 419-room hotel's basic offering will include amenities found at all-inclusive resorts, such as unlimited food and beverage options.

The hotel's premium accommodations, known as the Level, will offer amenities such as private VIP check-in, exclusive use of the 10th floor lounge, concierge services and 24-hour, in-room dining at no additional cost.

The resort's restaurants and bars will not be affected by the transition to the new concept. In addition to in-room dining, guests can choose from Salt, Beachhouse Restaurant, Silk, the hotel's E-space cyber cafe and The Water Grill, an Argentinean-style grill that will debut with the new all-inclusive model.

Additional services such as private "barefoot dinners" on the beach, pool parties with performances by guest DJs, treatments at the 11,000-square-foot YHI Spa and top-shelf liquor products will be available for an additional fee.

ME Cancun will offer a proprietary identification system enabling outlets to quickly identify guests. For more, see www.mebymelia.com.
