Travelport told travel agency subscribers that it will waive fees for all but two programs that are part of its Agility suite until the expiration of their current GDS contracts.

Derek Sharp, Travelport’s president of the Americas region, said in a letter sent Dec. 31 that the Smartpoint and Worldspan Go Translator Applications would be taken out of the Agility bundle and that agencies can “elect to purchase these products separately based on your business needs.”

“The other products previously announced as part of Agility, including Travelport Rooms and More, will remain in the bundle but Travelport will waive the Agility fee for your agency for the duration of the term of your existing Travelport subscriber contract,” Sharp wrote.

Subscribers to Travelport’s GDSs — Apollo, Galileo and Worldspan — learned last month that as of Jan. 1 they would be paying a monthly fee for the Agility program, which would include several functions that were previously free.

Many agents and agency groups like ARTA and ASTA argued that Travelport was charging for services that were essential to the functionality of the GDS, and so the program came under fire for possibly violating current contracts Travelport has with agencies.

Sharp ended the letter saying, “We know you have a choice in business partners ... we thank you for choosing us.”

Several agents noted that for subscribers that recently signed contracts, this would be a big deal, while for those that are soon up for renewal, it won’t matter as much.
