The W Washington DC is embarking on a $50 million
The hotel says the project is the first full overhaul of the
hotel since W took over the property in 2009. The W is in a 1917 Beaux Arts building
across from the White House.
Renovations to the 317 guestrooms as well as the hotel's
rooftop bar will mix modern design with the brand's playful elements that will
pay homage to D.C. past and present, the hotel said.
The lobby, or what W calls its Living Room, will include a
waterfall and a seemingly endless mirror honoring the Lincoln Memorial's
Reflecting Pool. The Living Room will also feature private, partially
glassed-in areas for "whisper-worthy, off-the-record conversations," W
The hotel is redesigning its Wow Suites.
The hotel will feature seven signature Wow suites, including
a total redo of the Extreme Wow Suite.
The lounge portion of the hotel's famed rooftop bar and lounge will be transformed into a
year-round destination with the installation of accordion windows. In a new Brutalist-inspired design, the W will add elements inspired by the city's Metro. Floor-to-ceiling glass will lead to the terrace.
The hotel will add two
new restaurants by executive chef Barry Koslow. The ground-floor restaurant
will have an open-kitchen concept, serving shared plates. A speakeasy-style bar
will have an attached beer garden patio on Pennsylvania Avenue.
