Red Roof Inns led a group of budget and midscale hotel properties that provide the fastest wireless internet speeds in the hospitality industry, said Wefi, which manages data transmission for Internet hotspot providers. Additionally, Detroit Metropolitan Airport has the fastest WiFi among the largest U.S. airports.
Red Roof Inns was followed up by Choice Hotels International's Sleep Inn, Wyndham Worldwide's Ramada, InterContinental Hotels Group's Holiday Inn and Best Western, in terms of megabits per second.
Among the hotel chains with the 10 fastest average wireless Internet speeds, Starwood Hotels' Aloft and Four Points by Sheraton were the only upscale badges.
As for airports, Detroit was followed up by Denver; Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Fla.; and Los Angeles. Detroit's Internet speed was rated as being more than twice as fast as San Francisco's.
