NEW YORK -- South
African Tourism teamed with Virgin Atlantic on a marketing campaign
promoting travel to South Africa.
The "Virgin
Territory Meets South Africa" campaign runs through February and
marks the first time South Africa has promoted itself on Expedia.com. The
promotion is only available on Expdedia and has been up and running
since Oct. 1. To promote the campaign, information on packages was
sent to Expedia's extensive consumer database, according to a South
Africa Tourism spokesperson.
In addition, the
campaign also consists of banner ads on Expedia, "geo-targeted
based on what people search when looking for a flight or package
[based on] a number of origin city codes [such as] LAX, SFO, EWR,
JFK or LGA and on select destination city codes [such as] CPT, JNB,
DUR, PLZ or NTY," the spokeswoman said.
As part of the
promotional campaign, South Africa is marketing travel seven-night
packages priced from $1,636 per person, double, including hotel
accommodations and roundtrip air from New York (Kennedy) to
Johannesburg.
"We are delighted
to embark on this exciting new partnership with Virgin Atlantic,"
said Prudence Solomon, president, South African Tourism USA, in a
statement. "Virgin not only provides one of the industry's finest
travel experiences, but its South African itinerary through London
provides travelers with access to our country from major airports
across the U.S. In addition to showcasing the natural wonders and
cultural treasures of our land, we look forward to sharing what is
perhaps the most important element of a journey to South Africa:
the warm and welcoming hearts of our people."
