In the wake of deadly demonstrations and the U.S. State Department issuing one of its strongest travel warnings for Egypt since the January 2011 revolution, Abercrombie & Kent is canceling all its scheduled small-group departures to Egypt for July, August and September.
The tour operator is waiving all cancellation penalties and said that it is in the process of contacting travel agents and their clients to suggest alternate arrangements, or that they postpone their travel until the current situation resolves.
“The safety and security of our guests remains our primary concern, and we are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will update you on any change,” A&K said in a statement.
If guests book a different A&K program and travel in 2013, A&K will extend a 5% discount. If international air was booked through A&K, A&K will cover the change fees, but the traveler is responsible for the difference in fare to the new destination.
