CIE Tours revamps lineup and expands into Sicily

Ireland specialist CIE Tours added Sicily to its portfolio of destinations for 2007 with the introduction of a one-week escorted tour.

Focused primarily on Ireland since its founding in the 1930s, CIE also sells England and Scotland to the American market, and introduced Italy in 2006 in response to consumer demand, according to CIE President Brian Stack.

"We added [the new destinations] because we were getting a lot of interest from past clients, Stack told Weve been around 75 years. There are a lot of people who have traveled with us who would like to go to some of these new destinations with us.

CIE also is adding river cruising on the Danube with a stay in Prague to its 2007 line. The program is being offered through Amadeus Waterways.

The itinerary of CIEs new Sicily tour includes stays in Taormina, Palermo and Agrigento; a wine tasting in Marsala; and visits to the Benedictine Abbey of Monreale, the Valley of the Temples, the slopes of Mt. Etna, and the Neapolis Archaeological Park Greek Ruins in the ancient city of Syracuse.

Departures will be offered on select Saturdays between Feb. 17 and Dec. 22.

The six-night tour is priced at $898 per person, double, land only; with roundtrip air included, it starts from $1,529 from New York (Kennedy) or Boston, or from $1,656 from Chicago (O'Hare).

The price includes first class hotel accommodations; buffet breakfasts daily and most dinners; services of an English-speaking tour director; sightseeing program via air-conditioned motorcoach; admissions to all attractions; all local taxes and hotel service charges; and porterage for one suitcase per person.
